Can you believe I get tired of hearing that my blog is absolutly brilliant, and the commenter can't wait to share it with his friends?

Well, I do, and so I'm trying out comment moderation.  If I'm going to have to spend log in several times a day to remove spam, I might as well spend that time approving comments.

The down side is that if you write a comment here, you won't see it right away, at least not at first.  Jon has enhanced the moderation software to allow previously-approved commenters to bypass the moderation process, though you'll have to go through it again if you write from a different IP address.

I trust it will go smoothly, but if your comment gets lost, please let me know.

I've fixed the moderation plugin to only pre-approve comments if they were previously marked as not-spam, as opposed to any comments, which would include previous spam -- so all a spammer had to do was post two comments from the same ip. duh.

I've also re-enabled the moderation bypass checkboxes in your control panel.

Thanks!

I actually said thanks earlier today, but then realized that if I okayed that comment I would be giving the green light to anyone from the Miami Public Library. :) So I waited till we got home.

Hrm, true. So, it might not work in all cases. It will still get checked by the regular bayesian filter, but the spammers have been doing a better job at getting past that lately.

(and if you saw the recent spam on my blog... I had yet another bug in my change to the moderation plugin, so now it will actually work)
