... and also why it's great to be attending a church close to home.
Sunday: Palm/Passion Sunday Service
Tuesday: Stations of the Cross
Wednesday: Tennebrae Service
Thursday: Maundy Thursday Service, Agape Meal, Stripping of the Altar, Prayer Vigil
Friday: Good Friday Liturgy
Saturday: Easter Vigil, Baptisms, Kindling of New Fire, joyous ringing of bells, First Eucharist of Easter
Sunday: Easter Sunday (singing Rutter, Vivaldi, Handel, and much, much more!)
And these are only the services we attended/plan to attend; I've left out quite a few.
Plus, on the Saturday morning before Easter, if you're really lucky, you get to clip the bushes and rake the grounds!
Yikes! A schedule like that would kill me!
Well, they're none of 'em mandatory. :) We've never been to so many before, because we've never lived so close to church before. If we still had to drive 40 minutes to church, such a schedule would kill me, too. (Not to mention the gas budget.) But I've found it a wonderful Lenten discipline to set aside every evening of Holy Week (except Monday, when we skipped the Eucharist service) for corporate worship. Plus, the services were all very rich and meaningful.
I missed that one, Eric, but could have done it at our previous church if we'd been willing to drive the distance. :)
No clipping bushes or raking here. It's snowing! We also discovered that not all Catholic churches do a big celebration on Easter. :( So we'll be singing some hymns loud and clear as soon as the kids wake up from their naps. :) :) Christ is risen!!!
