I like to cook. Really, I do. This happened overnight.

Our double-oven went out about a month ago. The ovens are fine, I'm sure, but the control panel has failed and (after 22 years) parts are unavailable. We thought: No problem. We can grill. Microwave. Crockpot. Cooktop. The reality: We. miss. our. oven. We expect a replacement by Xmas, but with supply chain problems and (I'm certain) the fact that the replacement ovens will be a quarter-inch too wide and require a carpenter as well as electrician, I'm hoping to have a real baked potato by February...

I hope you are not planning to cook Thanksgiving dinner at your house. I could make do with our toaster oven or even our air fryer for baked potatoes, but turkey is another matter altogether. And pies! I hope things move along a lot more quickly and easily than you anticipate.

I miss the days when appliances were of standard sizes. We once bought a refrigerator and discovered that while it fit nicely in the spot we had for it, it wouldn't go through the (standard-sized) door into our house! Actually, it could have fit, but the people delivering it were not willing to take the care necessary to avoid damaging it in the process. We never bought appliances from that store again—who in their right minds allows workers only 15 minutes to install a major appliance?
