You were expecting maybe Happy New Year?
Well, of course I wish you that as well.
But in our house, Christmas lasts 12 days. Here are some 8th Day of Christmas treats from our second-oldest grandson, who is playing all parts.
Nice! It's still Christmas at my house also.
I briefly was wondering what my neighbors might be thinking about my Christmas music, but then I realized that they might not recognize a lot of it as Christmas music (medieval, and music by people like Herzogenberg and Schuetz.)
Not unless they speak German. :) Plus the fact that if you play Christmas carols instead of "Jingle Bells" or "I'll Be Home for Christmas," they still may not recognize them. Listening to ambient public music in December, I realized that I had no idea how much "secular Christmas" music there is.
My friend April used to work in a grocery store, where she has to listen to the same few "secular Christmas" songs over and over again for hours. She would come to my house afterwards and ask me to play some "real Christmas music" and then sit there and soak it up.
You make me realize how difficult it must be for those who work where music, even good music, is played continually. It drives me crazy that there is music playing nearly everywhere I go, from retail stores to doctors' offices, from restaurants to public spaces (even a local park!). To work there must be torture.
